To put it bluntly, Sonic's story is still some Grade A gaming for me. With this new setup, I got into the game, starting with Sonic's story ! Many Sonic games have definitely suffered from poor localization, but it's important to keep in mind that it does make a significant difference for the stories of these games. A lot of the more awkward scenes of the english dub that didn't quite make sense were a lot more natural with the original Japanese script properly translated. It honestly improved the dialogue and script quite a bit. To properly experience it in this way, I installed the Sonic Adventure Retranslated mod which provides you with subtitles that match the Japanese script instead of the localized English script. I did something very different in this playthrough of SA1 as I decided to play it with the Japanese dub for the first time in my life.
Action button on a separate button (talking to NPCs, light speed dash, etc).I highly recommend you that you use these mods if you want to play through the game as it really does make a huge difference. I wanted to re-evaluate my stance on the game and see if I still loved it just as much ! For this playthrough, I used the steam version modded to restore the original dreamcast visuals and fix many of the issues the DX ports have introduced over the years. I usually replay this game every few years and it's usually only Sonic's story, but this time, I replayed the entire thing which I had not done in at least five years.
However, as time passed and I replayed the game, I came to truly appreciate the magic of Sonic Adventure. At the time, I loved the game, but I definitely had a clear preference for SA2. I actually played this one fairly late after Adventure 2, Heroes and the classics. Sonic Adventure wasn't always my favorite Sonic game.
